Alongside BES is a 4-acre plot of land where we plan to plant fruiting trees and grasses favored by the elephants, creating a sustainable food source.
The land is currently undeveloped and funds raised will go to, removing current flora and providing fauna and replanting with native, fast growing species to provide a permanent food source for BES, reducing the long term running costs of the facility. The farm is being planted in stages as we receive funding for its ongoing development.
Each elephant (based on size) consumes on average 150kgs of food per day and up to 250kgs, at a cost of $250 per month per elephant. The eco-farm will form part of our volunteer project in the future where international visitors can join us to help develop this site for the future.
